Embryo Transfer
Embryo transfer is the process of implanting a embryo from a donor female into a recipient cow or heifer. Multiple recipients are synchronised, observed for signs of oestrus and 7 days later brought back into the yards with the goal of implanting an embryo. At this time, the recipient’s ovaries are palpated to ensure that she is a good candidate for holding a pregnancy. The embryo, either fresh or frozen, is then carefully prepared and implanted into the recipient.
